How do you trademark the words you use in advertisements to help identify your company?

A trademark is... "a word, phrase, symbol or design, or a combination of words, phrases, symbols or designs, that identifies and distinguishes the source of the goods of one party from those of others." All you need to do is to put a small "tm" next to the mark. In some Word processor software like "Word" you can use "(tm)" and it will do it automatically for you. You can register the trademark with USPTO and then you can use the symbol R with a circle around it.
