How do I permanently remove an icon which keeps appearing on my laptop?

I delete it then empty the recycle bin but it seems to reappear each time I logon. My ISP is AOL and I have AOL Spyware and Windows Defender installed. I have a Dell Inspirion 6400 and use Windows XP. I ume somehow it knows when my IP address is being used. Thank you in advance for your istance.
